Puerto Rico is more often than not a stop on a journey, rather than the destination. However, with these three #luxelistapproved resorts, I think that should change!
All three of these properties are within 35 minutes of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico is where the Caribbean begins. Because it is in the tropics, it's weather is perfect year round with an average temperature of 85 degrees. Some of the worlds best deep sea fishing can be found off the shores of Puerto Rico as well as amazing beaches and mountains for hiking.
For history nerds ((me)), the fortress of El Morro is the oldest surviving European structure in the Americas. It dominates the northernmost promontory on the edge of Old San Juan. ((I highly recommend checking it out and exploring all the secret passageways!)) The blue stone streets of Old San Juan are beautiful and harbor cafes, museums, shops as well as the final resting place of the world's foremost expert on the Fountain of Youth - Juan Ponce de Leon.
If you are coming to Puerto Rico to explore the amazing streets of Old San Juan, than there is no better place to stay than the #luxelistapproved Condado Vanderbilt Hotel.
The Condado Vanderbilt has catered to sophisticated travelers since it's inception in 1919. With its magnificent Spanish Revival architecture, stunningly opulent interiors and dramatic ocean views - it is the perfect five-star resort to stay at while enjoying the best San Juan has to offer.

If you are looking to come to Puerto Rico to escape from city life, than take your pick between the #luxelistapproved Dorado Beach, a Ritz Carlton Reserve, or The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort.
The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort is located on the northeastern corridor of the island, at the foot of the El Yunque National Rainforest. The area used to be a true sugar field / coconut plantation so from the moment you arrive, you truly feel like you are in the tropics. The St. Regis has an incredible Remede Spa as well as a Robert Trent Jones Jr. golf course.

Last, but most certainly not least, is Dorado Beach, a Ritz Carlton Reserve. Dorado Beach is set up as an intimate luxury resort - a 50 acre island retreat encircled by coral reefs, blue Caribbean waters and a lush tropical forest. The Dorado Beach resort has spectacularly blurred the boundaries between outside and in, with their open-air enclaves that embrace the surrounding nature. Continuing to blur the boundaries of outside and in, the rooms at Dorado Beach are spectacular. While all of the rooms boast terraces and outdoor showers, it is well worth it to splurge for a room with a plunge pool ((I promise!)).

Puerto Rico is one of my favorite quick-getaways from the US. It is often over-shadowed by some of the more "exclusive" Caribbean Islands, but I think it is perfect for a tropical getaway! Whether you are looking for city-life at the Condado Vanderbilt, want to play a round of golf at the St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, or want to escape into the tropical forest at Dorado Beach… Puerto Rico is perfect for every type of travel from a honeymoon to a family getaway!
