Rivers. Hot Springs. Waterfalls. Black and White Sand Beaches. Volcanoes. Mountains.
Divers. Hikers. Bird-watchers. Nature Lovers.
Honeymoon. Destination Wedding. Family Adventure.
The secluded holiday of a lifetime.
Believe it or not, all of this can be found on my #luxelistapproved FAVORITE ((so far)) Caribbean island - Dominica.
Known as the "Nature Island" Dominica is twice the size of Barbados, but has only one fifth of its population with less than 80,000 inhabitants. Much of Dominica is protected under National Parks which means you feel like you're vacationing on an unspoiled, untouched island that has yet to be discovered.
It truly must be seen with your own eyes to believe how magical a place it is. The clearest turquoise water leads right up to white sand beaches, flanked by lush palm trees and tropical palms. From the beach the landscape dramatically rises into mountains, called "Mornes", where the worlds second largest hot spring, Boiling Lake, exists due to the volcanic activity of the island.
Getting here can be a little tricky, but is well worth it. There are no long-haul direct flights to Dominica, so you connect through San Juan, Puerto Rico. If you are already in the Caribbean and would like to Island hop, there are both flight and ferry connections available to nearby islands.
Once here, there is no where more perfect to stay than at Secret Bay. Secret Bay is an award-winning boutique hotel with just eight sustainable luxury villas and bungalows. Exotic and private, they have been described as tree-houses for adults. The inside seamlessly melts with the outside so you can fully appreciate paradise.

More than the stunning architecture at Secret Bay - is the phenomenal service. Before you arrive, you can determine every detail about your stay - down to the type of mattress and pillows you would like to sleep on. When you arrive you are given an iphone pre-loaded with all the contacts you might need as a guest, such as a concierge or security services, as well as apps that will aid your exploration of the surrounding area. Dining is one of the most incredible experiences at Secret Bay. Whatever you would like, however you would like it - if you would like to cook in your kitchen, great! If you would like a chef to come to your villa for a cooking class, perfect! If you would like the meal to be prepared and eat it on the sunset deck, you got it! Just tell them what you would like for dinner each morning, and voila, they take care of the rest.
Secret Bay provides access to kayaks and paddleboards, from which you can access Tibay and Secret Beach. They can also provide a driver and guide to take you to my 3 must see spots on the island:
Emerald Pool - this is the stuff dreams are made of. Seriously, the most breathtaking waterfall I've ever seen in my life. The bottom of the pool is covered in moss which gives off the emerald color. ((Picture at top))
Titou Gorge - Although the water can be cold, it is completely worth it! The bits of light that make their way down the canyon walls where you swim is one of the most unique experiences I've had. Even better - you swim to the end where you can climb up the wall and jump off of a waterfall! Fun fact - Pirates of the Caribbean used this as a filming location.
Hot Springs - There are several locations from which to enjoy the hot springs on the island. My best advice, is to jump into the "cool pool" first and then the hot spring… it will make your skin feel incredible. There's nothing better than ending a day of hiking relaxing in a hot spring.
I cannot recommend a trip to Dominica, or a stay at Secret Bay enough. It is the PERFECT #luxelistapproved destination. I promise you, a trip to Dominica will be one of the top travel experiences of your life… it absolutely was for me!
