Destination Spotlight: Six Senses Laamu, Maldives

This week we are featuring one of our FAVORITE Destinations that exudes the epitome of the perfect Honeymoon. Our next #luxelistapproved destination is Six Senses Laamu in the Maldives.

Upon arrival at Mele International Airport you will transfer to the Island Aviation Lounge, which is just a two-minute stroll. A 35-minute flight gives you a bird's eye view of the beautiful Maldives archipelago. You will then be met by your butler who will accompany you on the 15-minute speedboat ride to the resort.

In addition to your Butler, you will have a GEM for your stay; GEM stands for Guest Entertainment Manager. They will help you to plan out each day including your activities and where to eat. The resort offers a number of free activities and a few that have a small, but reasonable rate. Activities include diving, surfing, water skiing, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, private dinners on the sandbank and more. For the duration of your stay the resort will provide you with complimentary snorkel gear and bicycles to make getting around easier. Be sure to check out Cinema Under the Stars – movies in the open air with popcorn and refreshments ((so fun!)).

Also be sure to make an appointment at the Spa during your stay. The Six Senses Spa is set right on the beach and offers four uniquely designed couple’s treatment nests, four secluded couple’s treatment pavilions and one Ayurvedic treatment pavilion. They offer several award-winning signature treatments as well as wellness specialties of the region.

Six Senses Laamu also offers a wonderful dining experience. Longitude is a two story, open air, overwater restaurant that offers breakfast and dinner. Dinner in Longitude is an a-la-carte international menu of fresh catch, grilled meats, pastas and Asian flavors. Leaf is the Mediterranean restaurant that is perched above the organic garden. Leaf uses locally sourced ingredients to create innovative dishes such as Snapper de Brandade, Butternut Squash Tortellini and Leaf Garden Spinach Cannelloni! Sip Sip is the pool side bar that offers all day dining with menu items such as pizza, salads, burgers and several desserts ((The Senor Coconut Colada is served in a coconut!)). The Chill Bar is my favorite because it has several levels, all built over the water.. it is the perfect place to grab a cocktail, listen to some music and enjoy the company you’re with. I absolutely cannot forget about “Ice”. Ice has 42 unique and locally inspired ice cream and sorbet flavors including Pistachio, Wasabi and Sour Cream, Black Pepper Strawberry, Nutella and Orange Campari – all complimentary during your entire stay!

Six Senses Laamu offers several room types, all of them provide water views and privacy. The accommodation options include Lagoon Beach Villas, Ocean Beach Villas, Lagoon Water Villas, Ocean Water Villas, Laamu Water Villas, and Family Villas. All of those room types also have options of having a pool. The main differences in the Villas are the location of them on the island, and the type of view you will receive. The Lagoon Villas face the turquoise waters of the Lagoon whereas the Ocean villas have views of the ocean with views to the horizon. In addition, the Beach Villas are located on land whereas the Water Villas are located over-water.  All of the Villas come with a panoramic upper dining deck at treetop level and viewing platform. Our favorite Villa at the property is the Laamu Water Villa with Pool. It features a sunken ocean view all-glass bathtub, private water garden, outdoor relaxing platform with daybeds, sun lounges and over-water netting, aquarium dining deck with all-glass table and they face towards the ocean with complete uninterrupted views as they are located at the end of the jetties, furthest away from the main island. The Laamu Water Villa with Pool truly provides you with the Robinson Crusoe feeling of seclusion, perfect for Honeymooners.
